Well the website is finally back online. Over a year's worth of work was lost from not having recent backups. No one to blame but me. But the new hosting company does provide a nice system of automatic backups and I'm maintaining a copy of the site on my home computer as well as on a USB thumb drive.
There has been a new domain added, this website is now seamanfamily.net (as before) as well as seamanfamily.com. Nothing really changed, the website just answers to an additional name now.
Updates may be few and far between for a while. The reason is that I'm living in the middle of Nowhere, Oaxaca, Mexico. There are no phone lines here (or cable) so it is impossible to get DSL or even use a modem for dialup. The only Internet with usable speed for uploads is about a 45 minute drive from here.
I do have very limited access to the Internet from home via a very slow EDGE type connection on my cell phone. The fact that I have any cellular service at all is thanks to a ten element yagi antenna on a 30 foot mast. The antenna feeds a cellular amplifier inside the house. My own personal tiny cell tower! But at least I can make phone calls as well as send and receive e-mail. Oh ... did I say I was living n the middle of nowhere?
The 1940 census was released last year. Lots of new information to check out! And several hundred census images that need to be downloaded and added to the site.
